Saskatoon Symphony Book & Music Sale - Volunteer FAQs

Page Contents

Who are your volunteers?

Our volunteers come from all walks of life: teachers, professors, engineers, symphony-goers, book lovers, etc.

Can I volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer, but note that lifting of boxes and sale items will be required for work room tasks and stocking sale shelves, so bring a strong back! Also, if you have dust or mold allergies, this may not be the job for you. If you are interested in volunteering to work for the Book & Music Sale, contact the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra at 665-6414.

What are the duties of a volunteer?

How many volunteers work during the sale?

Extra volunteers are needed during the sale to help with set up, cashier duties, customer help, security and take down. An accurate count is difficult, but around 130 extra volunteers help with these tasks during the sale.

How many volunteers work year-round?

The core group of volunteers numbers from 50 to 60 in recent years.

How many hours does a core volunteer work annually?

This number varys widely depending on the duties of the volunteer. A volunteer may work from 60 to more than 200 hours per year.

How many total volunteer hours are worked annually?

As there's no time clock to punch, the hours worked are roughly tracked by the volunteers themselves throughout the year. The hours worked during the actual sale are more accurately tracked since shifts have to be scheduled. Approximately 5000 to 6000 hours annually are worked in total by volunteers.
